Microsoft acquired the right to buy Musiwave SA from Openwave Systems Inc: possible acquisition

Microsoft have made an announcement that they have acquired the right to buy Musiwave SA from Openwave Systems Inc which means Microsoft have cornered Musiwave for possible acquisition now this is great news because most of the time when Microsoft get their hands on something they really do mean business.

It has been said that it has struggled with management changes when it comes too stock-option backdating woes and the proxy battles with shareholders and of course no terms of the proposed deal were disclosed.

This possible acquisition of Musiwave would in fact bring to Microsoft a company with existing relationships with music labels, mobile operators, device makers and complementing Microsoft’s Connected Entertainment offerings. Microsoft did say “Musiwave powers mobile music services for Vodafone Group plc, T-Mobile International, Telefonica S.A., Orange and Telus Corp. Microsoft’s Windows Mobile OS runs on more than 140 handsets worldwide and is a challenger to the dominant Symbian OS found on Nokia Corp.’s advanced phones.

Musiwave have their head quarters in Paris and that they would continue to operate after the possible acquisition, Openwave purchased Musiwave in 2005 for $120 million. There could be benefits of integrating Musiwave’s offerings into Microsoft’s own services because it would showcase the amazing power of software and services said Pietr Knook, senior VP of Microsoft’s mobile communications business.
