Tesco it seems wants too make a difference and that is because there are around 11 million people that will get a new mobile phone over the Christmas period and with these people getting new phones they happily throw away their old ones not thinking about recycling them, out of the 11 million people getting new phones it has been reported that around 20% of people in the UK just throw away their old handsets even if they work or not. This Citing data was from a recent Tesco Mobile survey.
The survey also reported that two-thirds of Brits have not got a clue about recycling their gadgets like mobile phones and the worst offenders are the under-25s, 36% of this age group admit to not knowing where their nearest recycling plant is situated.
Chief executive officer of Tesco Mobile Andy Dewhurst says “These results are very worrying. We’ve decided to take positive steps in response to these findings and have recently launched an online mobile recycling service — www.tescomobilerecyle.com and re-launched our recycling envelopes in stores with the aim of recycling 1 million mobile phones in the next year alone, helping to reduce the number of handsets that go on the scrap heap and making it even easier for our customers to recycle easily”.
