A report has said that the super cheap mobile phone handset sales will rocket over the Christmas period compared to last year. There are many handsets at the moment costing less than £30 and these will account for around about 30 percent of pay as you go phones sales this December, this means double the number of phones sold in the same price category during Christmas 2006 according to GfK.
Big named stores such as Phones 4u, Carphone Warehouse, Asda and Woolworths are offering prepay phones for less than £10 which is definitely a bargain. Phones 4u and Carphone Warehouse have had some large advertising campaigns at the moment and even Currys has launched its largest mobile campaign to date, so it seems Christmas could be good all round really, Tescos have even joined in on the act with large amounts spent on a TV campaign.
The GfK figures report that the prepay sales have risen to an incredible 30% year-on-year and have been on the rise since March and around 3.5 million mobile phones will be sold this December and 2.5 million (70%) of them will be pay as you go (Prepay).
