RIM BlackBerry phones being launched by Russian telcos in early 2008
Oh yes we call this one BlackBerry CrackBerry Russia, ok to the serious stuff. It is said over at Reuters that the Russian security agency’s (FSB) have approved to let Russian wireless operators MTS and Vimpelcom carry the BlackBerry phones from RIM.
This means that this new approval will see the carrier branded BlackBerry mobile phone handsets making their way into Russian hands in early 2008 (Q1). Just so you know because that is what we do many Blackberries have been in use on MTS’s Ukraine network since October but these mobile phones have been using foreign SIM cards as roaming handsets.
Vimpelcom have been given the go ahead to sell 1,050 BlackBerry 8700 handsets and this will all happen soon as the handsets have passed the certification tests.
