Apparently Apple’s techs at Cupertino want to bring aboard a new employee to bring Microsoft Exchange functionality to their iPhone. Apple is searching for “motivated, highly-technical Exchange test/sync engineer with excellent problem solving and communication skills who will be joining a dynamic team responsible for qualifying the latest iPhone products…Your focus will be testing Exchange and Outlook functionality with Apple’s innovative new phone.”
Apple wants to break into the enterprise environment with their iPhone, however lack of support for Microsoft Exchange email system has kept the iPhone a favourite of consumers rather than the corporations. The support for email sync by Microsoft Exchange being available however would give Apple success to make the iPhone a business contender and give the likes of BlackBerry a serious challenge. Presently the iPhone is only partially capable of limited Microsoft Exchange support via 3rd party offerings and supports IMAP email.
Recent surveys show that 98% of those who to part would possibly get an iPhone if accompanied by Microsoft Exchange. Although ActiveSync is possibly the main rival of Apple’s iTunes base sync strategy it may pay them in the long run for Apple to finally support it as well.
