Back in 2001 when Deutsche Telekom acquired VoiceStream to being T-Mobile USA online, the FBU and Department of Justice force the firm to comply with regulations which allow constant surveillance of communications for national security reasons no doubt.
Now T-Mobile is acquiring SunCom the federal authorities have renewed scrutiny, and although the FCC isn’t concerned about reduced competition apparently Homeland Security isn’t giving into the deal without a slice for itself.
The FCC gave the green-light to T-Mobile to merge but only after Homeland Security convinced T-Mobile to grant the snooping agency the same power they granted the FBI and Department of Justice, which mean they too can monitor communications. This deal is supposed to limit foreign influence over domestic communications.
Sounds a tad like Big Brother to me!
