At Apple’s developer event, features new to the iPhone 2.0 software were revealed, and is to be made available to Apple iPhone users in early July. Steve Jobs highlighted particular new functionality while making his Keynote speech at the Worldwide Developers Conference.
The highlighted new features will include contact search with live searching, allowing a user to save images to the iPhone, improved language support which includes Asian, the parental control that were originally promised at MacWorld, and a new calculator with scientific mode when the user rotates their Apple iPhone.
Furthermore, and this will be of particular interest to enterprise and business users of the Apple iPhone, the iPhone 2.0 software is to offer iWork document support along with complete supports for office documents Excel, Word and now PowerPoint. Enterprises will also be able to distribute applications just to their employees simply be authorising Apple iPhones within their enterprise, and create applications that will just run on those Apple iPhones, and distributing solely through their intranet.
Also, further information on the practicalities of the App Store have been revealed, and instead of 22 countries the Apps Store was due in, Apple has now extended the coverage you take in 62 countries, “almost anywhere in the world where there’s an iPhone.”
Just like the January software update, the iPhone 2.0 software will be free for the Apple iPhone, however iPod touch users will need to pay a $9.99 charge, although this will be less than the previous update charge of $20.00. Apps of 10MB or less can be downloaded over mobile networks or WiFi, as well as iTunes, while apps exceeding 10Mb will be available via WiFi and iTunes only.
