Apple iPhone 3G and the great porn plague
Apple and the current Apple iPhone 3G may well be the golden boy of the mobile arena at the moment but there is a seedier side that is plaguing the iPhone, and that side is mobile porn. Apple seems to be keeping a slightly embarrassed silence about one of the most potentially controversial uses of their mobile jewel in the Apple crown.
Jeremy Caplan reports for Time.com: “The technological feats that the 3G iPhone can perform are key to the coming pornocopia… thanks in large part to the iPhone’s video dexterity; short clips are becoming a staple for the mobile porn business. The speed promised by iPhone 2.0 is much anticipated. Google Trends, which measures Web buzz, shows a sharp increase over the past year in the popularity of the term ‘iPhone porn.'”
Caplan goes on to report: “Leading porn purveyors see the iPhone as a dream come true. Its relatively ample screen size, speedy Web access and ease of use are just part of it. The device’s miniaturized version of Apple’s Safari software simplifies mobile access and streamlines the process of tailoring dirty sites for optimal viewing on the go. ‘It’s by far the porn-friendliest phone,’ says Devan Cypher, spokesperson for San Francisco-based Sin City Entertainment.”
According to Caplan: “Apple spokesperson Jennifer Bowcock says the company doesn’t condone iPhone porn distribution and will ban adult content from official applications, just as it has restricted adult content in the podcast section of the Apple store. But they can’t prevent customers from accessing porn through the device’s browser. Indeed, the new iPhone may eventually propel mobile porn deeper into the sphere of interactivity.”
So there you have it, want porn, get a mobile, want better faster porn, get an Apple iPhone. To be fair you can’t actually put all the blame onto Apple, the mobile phone hasn’t been invented yet that can successfully block all porn, besides porn is here and it’s here to stay, it’s just a matter of how you deal with it.

What an embarrasment!
I guess porn is plagueing the plasma-screen makers, too…
Are we buying into another fabrication-story of the media? I guess whipping up excitement in the narcissistic silence of dreaded boredom is the staple of pornographers AND journalist/bloggers.
Keep up the good work!
