Apple iPhone and iPod touch turning into remote controls? Quite possible.
For some time now, modders have been patiently hacking away at the Apple iPhone and Apple iPod touch to try and get them to be used as remote controls, and now it appears that Apple finally agrees that having the iPhone and iPod touch as a remote control is a cracking idea.
Those ingenious and dedicated guys and gals over at MacRumours have been doing a bit of snooping into the latest iTunes v7.7 beta, and apparently they have discovered in the “Read Me” section, only these guys would actually read the Read Me section, I don’t know anyone else who does, anyway they located a certain most interesting hint.
Following the usual: “Use iTunes 7.7 to sync music, video, and more with iPhone 3G, and download applications from the iTunes Store exclusively designed for iPhone and iPod touch with software version 2.0 or later” comes “Also use the new Remote application for iPhone or iPod touch to control iTunes playback from anywhere in your home – a free download from the App Store.”
We are not too sure just how Apple intent to do this, MacRumours do suggest it could possibly be WiFi. But it would appear that Apple had indeed previously patented methods with a view to implement an iPhone media remote. So the iPhone will possibly replace the need for other remote controls? Wouldn’t that just annoy remote control makers no end.
