iPhone software sales rocket to $30 million within a month

Since the opening of the App Store a month ago, more than 60 million programs have been downloaded by users, said Chief Executive Steve Jobs in an interview with the Wall Street Journal. The App Store which is an online software clearinghouse owned by Apple Inc (AAPL.O: Quote, Profile, Research, Stock Buzz) sold around $1 million applications a day which works out about a whopping $30 million in sales over a month.

Sales are moving at such a fast pace that if they continue the way they are Apple could earn at least $360 million a year in new revenue, it’s looking likely that the iPhone could make $1 billion in the marketplace soon, Jobs told the journal.

Jobs went on to tell the journal that the programs’ creators will keep 70 percent of the application sales and Apple will keep 30 percent, he also thinks that applications will sell more iPhones and wireless-enabled iPod and touch devices, as the products will be more appealing to the consumer.

In the event of a malicious program being distributed through the App Store, Jobs told the Journal that iphones checks regularly an Apple Web site that should spot and will remove any undesirable software from the devices, No comment was immediately made by Apple on this subject.
