The N-Gage effect: CCTV-style films and mass FIFA 08 giveaways

The N-Gage effect — Nokia’s new gaming platform is unleashed on Britain’s public transport system with hilarious consequences.

In a bid to raise awareness of both their new gaming service — N-Gage — and their mass FIFA 08 licence giveaway, Nokia have today released a series of CCTV-style films documenting the amusingly absorbing effect of mobile FIFA 08.

Shot undercover on London’s tube network, each of these videos captures the bemused reactions of passengers, as actors take full advantage of this uncomfortably public environment to re-enact the kind of private behaviour more commonly confined to people’s living rooms. We witness a man so engrossed in his game that he’s ordered a pizza be delivered to his carriage on the Jubilee line in order to avoid any disruption to his match, and another whose girlfriend finds him camped out on the tube in her dressing gown and slippers because he can’t stop playing.

The aim of these films is to drive viewers to www.n-gage.com/fifa08 — a CCTV-bank-style site where you can watch any of these six videos at your leisure. From here you can download N-Gage, buy a Nokia N95 8gb or, if you already have the n-gage application on your mobile, go straight to download your free FIFA 08 licence.

To celebrate the launch of their N-Gage service, Nokia are giving away 120,000 of these licences to any UK resident in possession of a compatible Nokia device (N95, N95 8gb, N81 8gb, N82) throughout the whole of July and August.

This new platform provides an as yet unseen quality of mobile gaming — with enhanced graphics and easy controls as well as the opportunity for multi-player gaming. Combined with a wide range of mobile titles — from the surprisingly addictive Creatures of the Deep, Brain Challenge and Sims 2 Pets to Brothers in Arms and Pro Series Golf (see www.n-gage.com/showroom for more details), all of which can be demoed for free — this new service offering is particularly strong and should see Nokia take a firm lead in the mobile gaming field.
