NPD Group, a leader in market research within the wireless industry says consumer sales of smartphones to US customers has reached 9 million mobile phones since January through to July 08.
As overall mobile phone sales decline in the US, smartphone revenue has increased 71% and reached $1.7 billion. With the launch of the Apple iPhone back in July pushing Apple to second in the smartphone handset sales just behind Research In motion.
Director of industry analysis, The NPD Group, Ross Rubin, said: “Declining prices, streamlined form factors, and consumer Internet connectivity have begun to bring into the mainstream devices that once appealed only to mobile professionals.”
The average price for a smartphone between January and July 08 was $185.00.
