A new survey shows that motorist who text on mobile phones at the wheel are more of a risk than those who drive under the influence of alcohol or drugs. Reaction times were severely impaired in tests carried out involving young drivers for the RAC Foundation.
Overall driving performance including keeping a safe distance from other vehicles and steering came out very poor among the 17 to 24 year olds who were tested by the Transport Research Laboratory.
Using a driving simulator, tests where made and reaction times of those who were texting dropped by 35 percent which is worse that the 12 percent when alcohol is involved or driving under the influence of cannabis at 21 percent.
In plain English, DON’T use your mobile phone while driving.
