Ryanair, the no frills airline is to allow passengers to make mobile phone calls while on their planes, the carrier has already equipped ten of its planes with the required technology and plans to extend this over 50 of the Ryanair fleet.
According to Ryanair’s deputy chief executive, Howard Millar, call charges will be in line with that of international roaming charged by mobile phone companies, and said: “I believe the main demand will be for texting. We are also looking at selling mobile phone top ups.”
Mobile phones will have to be switched off during take off and just before landing, but will be able to be used once the aircraft has attained its cruising altitude.
