Visa Inc has plans to offer special offers, alerts, and ATM and merchant location services in a software application for phones powered by Google’s Android OS by the end of 08.
They also stated that Nokia will begin selling the Nokia 6212 mobile phone in October, and the 6212 allows the user to wave the mobile at an electronic reader to make payments and money transfers.
Visa has stated they are still developing their app to allow in-store “contactless” payments by mobile phone for Google’s Android, and also said that although this service is common in countries such as Japan, it may be years before US stores would need to install the new card readers.
