President and CEO of Nokia, Olli-Pekka Kallasvuo applauded the competitors in the mobile phone world, but said Nokia which is the world’s market leader is set to rise to any challenge. Kallasvuo said that rivals Research in Motion (RIMM), Apple, Microsoft Corp and Google Inc have helped to push interest in using the internet on mobile phones.
Nokia has 40 percent share of the conventional global mobile phone market and sells more than 400 million phones a year, Nokia competes with LG Electronics, Sony Ericsson, Motorola and Samsung and many others in the phone market.
Microsoft e-mail software is now on more than 80 million Nokia series 60 phones after the signed a deal that is set to allow Nokia to overtake RIM in terms of phones running with the corporate email, Kallasvuo said.
“We will exceed the RIM client BlackBerry in some months with a very good e-mail system,” the President of Nokia promised. Talking of the Apple iPhone Kallasvuo said that the iPhone has raised expectations for phones and that he takes his hat off to Apple for bring a credible competitor into the business.
