UK may fight Taliban propaganda with mobile phones
The UK government is apparently considering utilising mobile phones in the fight against Taliban propaganda in Afghanistan according to a report from Frank Gardner of the BBC.
The general idea is to attempt to allow Afghans to access communications systems currently monopolised by the Taliban. This initiative would enable non-governmental companies to deliver mobile phones so that Afghans would be able to create their own video diaries with a view to uploading to the internet.
Currently there are 6 million mobile phones in Afghanistan with many being bombarded with Taliban anti-Western propaganda films. Although as yet Whitehall officials have not approved this initiative.
