T-Mobile G1 Google android phone has pre-sold 1.5 million handsets according press reports, and with its arrival onto the market later this month if the rumours are correct it’s already on target to beat the one million iPhone sales that Apple sold in the first week of sales.
Neither Google, HTC the handset manufacturer or T-Mobile have confirmed the report that first appeared on Motley Fool website which had a report from T-Mobile saying that: “Given the great anticipation and the heavy presale demand for the T-Mobile G1 with Google (GOOG), we nearly tripled the number of phones initially available for delivery on our Oct. 22 launch date and have sold through them all”.
It seems that the G1 handset will hold its own against Apple’s iPhone (AAPL) as the demand seems far greater than first expected for the first ever phone on the Android platform, originally sale predictions were 400,000 to 500,000 of the G1 handset to be sold before the end of 2008, but as the presale figures are triple that already and taking into account that consumers have had no hands-on experience as of yet of the G1 we think these figures are pretty remarkable, the test will be if indeed the figures and true and if the T-Mobile G1 can live up to the presale figure hype.
