A member of android community has been taking a look at some fresh open source Android stuff and has discovered the roadmap mentions a release for the support of inernationalisation in Q4 of 08; this is then followed in Q1 of 09 by IMF and IME frameworks.
Apparently this basically means a native Input Method Framework (IMF) will allow a developer to allow any application to pop up a virtual keyboard to allow input anywhere within the device. An IME allows applications to use input editors such as T9 and other predictive text supported natively.
The discussion also suggests that this could also signal the way to multi-touch on the Android, which was originally in Android but was removed.
