According to a press release Apple have allowed an application for the Apple iPhone called BdEmailer into the Apple iTunes App Store, however the press release claims the app is “the first wide email iPhone app that supports client SMTP.”
This means that BdEmailer for the iPhone duplicates the exact function of Apple’s own email app on the iPhone. Now this is somewhat of a big deal as Apple has so far put up red flags to any application that duplicates the iPhones functionality and usually gets turned down.
Apple has already disallowed applications such as Podcaster and MailWrangler yet BdEmailer slips nicely through the selection process. Could this mean Apple have changed policy on duplicated functionality? Probably not, it’s more likely a question of getting lazy when approving, so we will probably be reporting the removal of BdEmailer quite soon.
