Renesas Technology, at the ISSCC 2009 in San Francisco is showcasing an application processor which enables mobile phones to process 1,920 x 1,080 resolution video at thirty frames per second.
This new processor’s core has a maximum operating frequency of 500MHz and will support video formats such as MPEG-4 AVC / H.264, MPEG-2 and MPEG-4.
As yet there is no word on just when we are likely to see the 6.4 x 6.5mm chip become available in mass production, but before it does the likes of HTC and the like need to get working on a 1080p mobile phone one would have thought so the mobile public can really enjoy full HD.
