Apple (APPL) Wal-Mart (WMT) deal: Could it kill off G1?
The word going round now is that Apple didn’t actually announce that Wal-Mart would be selling their Apple iPhone 3G at 4GB for $99.00, what was reported by the San Jose Mercury News was that a 4GB $99.00 iPhone would be sold at the number one retailer before Christmas.
Another source then countered with only an 8GB Apple iPhone 3G for $198.00 would be available from Wal-Mart, so actually who are we to believe?
Either way a price drop on the Apple iPhone will indeed lead to a substantial amount of new customers for Apple and in doing so could possible crush the Google Android T-Mobile G1.
If Apple does actually push out a new cheaper iPhone then the G1 well certainly be in for a rough ride, not to mention the Storm and other smartphones alike. It’s quite simple really; make it cheap enough and you’ll corner the market.
Do you think a cheaper Apple iPhone would oust the G1?

You’re assuming that Apple is crass enough to want to dominate the market with cheap product. On the contrary, I think they’re happier with solid market share, a reputation for reliability and quality, and a good return on each unit. Worked well so far…
“in doing so could possible crush the Google Android T-Mobile G1.”
Talk like that says Apple fanboy.
A doubt a walmart deal NOW would help Apple sales. Sure the phone maybe cheap at 198, BUT walmart customers willing to pay $100 AT&T 3G plans? I seriously doubt it.
They be better off selling iPods at Walmart.
