The French competition regulator has rules that Apple Inc must allow other operators other than just Orange SA to sell the Apple iPhone 3G. This ruling now overturns Apple exclusivity arrangements with Orange as being the exclusive distributor of the Apple iPhone in France.
A complaint about the exclusivity deal between Apple and Orange was filed by rival Bouygues Telecom SA who is the number three mobile operator in France.
The regulator said of the exclusivity deal between Apple and Orange posed a “serious and immediate threat” within the mobile telecommunications market and would increase costs for users who wished to change operators.
What do you think, should not just Apple by any mobile phone supplier be allow to strike exclusive deals, or should handsets be a free for all sold by all who wish to?
