Will the Palm Pre head to Canada and who with?
The big buzz at the moment is the Palm Pre, and no doubt everyone wants to get their hands on it. Well the initial launch will obviously be in the United States with Sprint as the carrier at an assumed price of $399.00 due in May or June, but where then?
Next, the word is Europe will see the Palm Pre in all its webOS glory sometime in July or August with an estimated price tag of somewhere between $500.00 and $550.00.
Now, as for Canada, when are they likely to see the Palm Pre? Well there are UMTS and CDMA versions of the Palm Pre so either one of them could head for Canada depending on which carrier is chosen, but as yet there is no confirmed date when Canada will see the Palm Pre.
So reader’s which Canadian carrier do you think will end up with the Palm Pre?

Make a quick deal with Bell Mobility or Telus and launching in the US and Canada at the same time. Since the Google-HTC G1 phone is not yet in Canada then it would give Palm a good foot in the door in the Canadian market.
I hope Bell picks up the Pre on their CDMA network, but Bell has proven itself to me to target primarily the tween (oo! pretty phone!) market or Blackberry users. That’s it.
I liked the Blackberry storm until I touched it…and it doesn’t have WiFi. The Pre has me not ‘settling’ for not having any must have features.
I’d drop Bell to go with whomever picks up the Pre.
I’ve been a Telus client for years, and I’m still on a contract with them. I’d love to see the Palm Pre come to Telus in Canada. As an ex-Palm OS user (owned a Handspring Visor 8mb and Visor Edge) I’ve always liked their OS as a mobile computing platform.
This will probably be my first smartphone. I’m really not in RIM’s market, I’ve never drunk Apple’s kool-aid, and with Canada’s carriers still suffering from Androidphobia, this is the best for me.
Rumors are that the pre will come to Bell in the 3rd or 4th quarter.
I am with Keith on this one. Never used any product Steve Jobs told me to. I think iPhone is overrated as most similar gadgets out there – most users don’t use 10% of device’s features. For me it is about productivity though as I only need the features that I know I will use: calendar, phone, quick Google search for info/address. PRE seems to deliver.
This potentially can be my first smartphone. While I am not on the market for one, Palm Pre will kill 2 birds at the same time for me: I’ve been using Palm for personal productivity and I love it. I also have a phone – so in combination I will carry my two favorite gadgets in one. A WiFi is a huge benefit for me as I can drop Skype on it and take it travelling as well on Skype unlimited calling plan.
I hope is bell !
