Not too long ago Motorola despite problems in the mobile world were clinging onto their coveted 3rd spot in terms of worldwide mobile phone shipments, that was 6 months ago and in the mobile arena a great deal can happen in 6 months.
Numbers compiled by DigiTimes now have LG Electronics shipping over 100 million mobile handsets in 2008, whereas Motorola shipped 99.9 million which means LG now have that 3rd place spot.
Although LG only just out beat Motorola for 3rd, which now fall to 4th followed by Sony Ericsson at 5th, Nokia as expected still retains the top slot while Samsung comes in second.
