Wireless networks cope well during Obama inauguration
The inauguration of a president is a big thing watched and attended by millions and the wireless networks of 4 major US carriers handled the multitude of calls of those that flocked to Washington D.C. for the inauguration of President Barack Obama.
Temporary mobile phone towers were erected to cope with the influx of calls and texts by AT&T Wireless, Verizon Wireless, T-Mobile and Sprint which help prevent networks from becoming overloaded.
Several hours prior to Obama’s swearing in wireless service was disrupted however the networks restored coverage within a single hour. All in all the networks coped well on inauguration day with AT&T and T-Mobile experiencing 3 to 5 times normal call volumes.
