It appears that Microsoft is planning to push frequent software updates to Windows Mobile handsets which will be accomplished probably via OTA. This is apparently due to a new job posting whereby Microsoft hints at a new “Device Update” feature on its way so reports arstechnica.
Microsoft searching for a new development team leader to construct this core Device Update architecture virtually confirms Microsoft’s desire to compete with Apple’s iPhone, as with Device Update, Windows Mobile devices with Windows Mobile 7 and up will be capable of grabbing updates via new the service.
It isn’t definite if Microsoft will enable OTA updates but it would make sense for them to do so in 2010 as this would give Microsoft a one up over the Apple iPhone as the iPhone has to update via data cable, well that is unless the new iPhone supports OTA of course.
