So it seems Nokia is not the only handset maker to be hit by the global recession, it seems that Sony Ericsson is joining them, Sony Ericsson is to cut a further 2,000 jobs in the bid to save 400-million Euros of savings.
Sony Ericsson revealed that they had a pre-tax loss of 358-million Euros ($469m; £316m) in the first three months of this year, “The management intends to pursue an additional cost saving programme targeting a further annual operating expense reduction of 400m Euros, to be completed by mid-2010,” said Sony Ericsson president Dick Komiyama.
SE said that over the last 12 months there has been a falling of one euro to 120 Euros when it comes to the average selling price of its units. Sony Ericsson is the world’s top 4 mobile phone makers and to see them hit a slump is pretty serious stuff, they have shipped 14.5 million mobile phones during its first quarter which according to BBC is a decrease of 35% compared with the same period last year.
Calling all Sony Ericsson workers, please post your comments below if you have been affected or indeed if you have anything to say.
