Apple App Store success & Results: cut above the rest
According to an article on WSJ, the Apple iTunes App Store contributes very little to Apple revenue, but has grown to be a huge weapon in the Apple arsenal is keeping the Apple iPhone at the top of the mobile arena.
The Apple App Store has been a huge success and the word is Apple will announce the figure of downloads from the App Store to have hit 1 billion any day now.
Come Wednesday Apple is expected to announce 2nd quarter results which will show a rise in earnings of 5 percent to nearly $8 billion. Sales of the Apple iPhone during the quarter are expected to hit 2.3 million handsets, and although about 110 million apps are download each month the App Store will probably contribute lower than 1 percent to revenues.
With in excess of 30,000 developers writing iPhone software they stock the App Store with something like 4,000 app per month which put Apple way ahead of any competitors.
