According to an article on CNN, research company Gartner Inc has states that global sales of mobile phones dropped in Q1 from the previous year, although the sales of smartphone have increased from the year before.

Gartner has stated that roughly 269 million mobile phones were sold in Q1 of 09 which is down some 9.4 percent on the previous year in comparison; smartphones increased some 12.7 percent to 36 million handsets.

Smartphone sales accounted for 13.5 percent of all mobile handset sales in Q1 of 09 which is up from 11 percent in Q1 of 08
