Is Sony Ericsson Satio phone an iPhone challenger?

As most know since the Apple iPhone was launched virtually every mobile phone since then is compared to the iconic iPhone.

The iPhone raised the bar for high end smartphones whether it be Nokia, Sony Ericsson, Samsung or BlackBerry, the success is measured against the iPhone.

Now Sony Ericsson has unveiled the Sony Ericsson Satio, and itvoir.com looks at how the Sony Ericsson Satio stacks up against the iPhone and whether it could be a possible iPhone challenger.

The Sony Ericsson Satio has a 12 megapixel camera where the iPhone has a 2MP. The Satio will be free on contract where the iPhone generally costs $50 and upwards. The Satio has QWERTY and numeric keypads but lack the iPhones intuitive word recognition.

Downside with the Satio is that it doesn’t support as many applications as the iPhone, and the iPhone incorporates simplicity of use, and there is of course size to be considered which the iPhone has the edge on.

So what are your views; is the Sony Ericsson Satio phone an iPhone challenger?

I think the new iPhone 2009 will still be better because of the app store and the functionality although the 12 mp camera is very appealing.

    I’m not getting too excited.
No doubt the batteries will last 12 minutes on standby. How about rather that constantly upgrading phones, they upgrade the battery first?
Lets sort that problem out and then create an all singing all dancing phone.

I still don’t get why everyone raves on about the apple iphone.
More apps than sony, 59p vs £4 etc
The sony uses symbian Series60 user interface which has been going for years and there are many apps available free over the web, I’ve been using S60 for about 5 years on Nokia handsets.

An people dont buy iphones for any other reason but stupidity. No phone will ever convince anyone who likes i___ anything to change. If apple made a new iphone which had no screen, couldnt make calls and leaked radioactive gas, iphone lovers would snap it up like its the best thing since sliced apples :p

  5. Super I don’t think you know what your talking about, the iPhone is actually an outstanding piece of kit, but eventually as new technology develops it will be outshone by different
sources. But I’m sure all iPhone users will move with the times and not be struck dumb with apples latest development as you described it. Anyway, kind regards why don’t you go and answer your mickey mouse nokia 3310, mummys calling telling you to get home as your tea is ready!

its plain to see iphone is nothin great.
just all the hyped up advertising and fools to run after it. if you talk about multimedia and connection to laptops , sony ericsson and nokia are the best.
if you want connection to email, HTC or at worst blackberry is best. just don ever buy samsung or lG unless u only want to make calls and sms

The iPhone was first only because an inadequate version was rushed to market to make sure it got there first. Do you not remember the 2G, no MMS, no copy/paste, camera as an afterthought piece of junk it was?

The iPhone is a decent phone but massively overrated and very limited by the tie down from Apple. It also weighs as much as a house and (in white at least) looks a bit cheap and chavy.

The Satio is a great phone now the software is sorted out and makes the iPhone look like a well presented but limited toy.

  8. I've been buying Sony Ericsson phones all my life and have never had any different. My friend had an iphone and hers lasted 5 months before it "packed up" and wouldn't what so ever any more. However, none of my Son Ericsson phones have done this for me and they do promise a lot more than they actually advertise. Their cameras ARE amazing and well fitted. I do believe that the iphone is no match for the satio and it is liked because (mainly) it's a "cool" thing to have and made by a very big and popular company known quite well for making good devices. I have got the satio and comparing it to the weight and the size if my friends old iphone I think it is more appropriate for a phone rather than a small laptop to carry around in your pocket.

Anyone who thinks the satio is even close to the iPhone is absolutely incorrect.
I don’t even own an iPhone, but I have used one and can honestly say, anything the satio does, the iPhone does 50x better.  I know this because I have had the satio for a miserable 1 and a half years.  I can honestly say that the satio is the worst phone I have ever had.  The 12MP camera is really a piece of garbage.  Anyone ever try blowing up a picture on a computer?? Try that and you’ll see why.  Can’t even take a picture and place it as a background without cutting off 50% of it.
Typing is incredibly excruciating, freezing is a constant issue.  No upgrades, and about 80% of all “apps” downloaded never load properly.
I’d rather take a phone from the early 2000s compared to this thing SE calls a phone.  Don’t get me wrong, I’ve had Sony Ericsson phones ever since I was young and I’ve stayed loyal to them for many many years, until I bought this thing.  It completely changed my view on them.
I have recently upgraded to a Samsung Galaxy S2 LTE.  This device is definitely better than the iPhone 4S and probably the next iPhone.  And about a million times better than the satio.
Thanks Sony, for opening my eyes to tell me to go somewhere else.

If you don’t believe me, buy a satio and find out yourself.  Just don’t say I didn’t tell you.
