According to an article over on Intomobile, the iPhone has now gained Google latitude, a little late but better that than never as they say.
So iPhoners can now enjoy the ability to track their friends, but the arrival of Google Latitude also gives us a peek into what Google has planned for smartphone applications in the future.
Whereas Both Android and BlackBerry have stand alone Google Latitude apps, the iPhone gains a browser based Google latitude web app which only works with the Safari browser; this indicates, like Vic Gundotra said at MobileBeat 2009, Google thinks web applications are the way of the future, and by releasing Google Latitude as a web baes app they have effectively bypassed the iTunes App Store.
