Altek have announced a new 12 megapixel camera, the Altek T8680 and dubbed a “professional cameraphone.” The Altek T8680’s camera lens on the rear extends just like a digital camera and looking at its back one wouldn’t think it is a GSM mobile phone.
Apparently there is also a separate dedicated imaging processor inside the Altek T8680 handset and delivers professional results, also smile detection, touch focus and numerous shooting and scenes modes, and a Xenon flash.
Other specs on the Altek T8680 include a 3 inch WQVGA touch screen, tri-band GSM/EDGE 900/1800/1900, Bluetooth with A2DP, PictBridge, DPOF, USB, TV out, video recording in VGA, FM radio, MP3 and AAC support and accelerometer. The Altek T8680 will be available at the end of August or early September for 3000 yuan in China, but no word if it will see other countries.
