The battle commences later this month in Canada between smartphone makers Apple and Palm as Bell Canada announced it would be offering Palm’s latest phone on August 27th.
Bell have stated that the Pre will be available for as little as $199.95 on a three year contract or $599.95 without the contract. The introduction of the 3G Palm Pre does potentially give Bell a strong competitor in the smartphone market to Apple’s iPhone 3GS, which currently is only available in Canada through carrier Rogers and it’s sister company Fido.
Apple and Palm are also in dispute over how alike the pre is compared to the iPhone. Apparently Palm recently introduced an application allowing users of the phone to access Apple’s iTunes store, Apple have since updated iTunes to block the feature.
