Taiwan handset manufacturers have shipments of smart mobile devices (PDA phones and smartphones)that are expected to top 12.05 million devices in the 3rd quarter of 09.

According to Chinese-language Economic Daily News, this is up 29 percent from 9.34 million devices shipped in the 2nd quarter. Shipments of Palm’s Pre by Foxconn International Holdings (FIH), HTC Hero by HTC and Apple’s iPhone 3GS by Foxconn Electronics will help push smartphone shipments for the 3rd quarter, quotes MIC.

In the 2nd quarter the 9.34 million phones represented a boost of 38.9% sequentially and 30.5% on year, while shipment revenues in the 2nd quarter reached US$2.87 billion, rising 41.4% on quarter and 34.7% on year according to the MIC data.
