Avaya wins auction purchase for Nortel Networks Corp Unit
The auction for a Nortel Networks Corp unit which manufactures mobile phone systems for businesses has now been won by Avaya Inc reports the WSJ.
Apparently Avaya Inc placed a bid of roughly $900 million for the Nortel Networks Corps unit with an additional $15 million as an employee retention program.
Avaya is owened by TPG Capital LLP and Silver Lake Partners LP and won over a bid from Siemens Enterprise Corporation to snatch the unit. Verizon has stated that unless Avaya takes over their contracts with Nortel as part of the deal, “an almost immediate disruption” of US government, emergency systems and military communications across the United States and Canada will ensue.
