For 25 years Ofcom has held controls over BT’s consumer business, but now according to an article on the times online, Ofcom has now abandoned those controls which could lead to a price war over broadband and phone costs.
The move by Ofcom means BT will now have a free hand to compete against their rivals like Virgin Media and Carphone Warehouse, and will for the first time be able to offer discounted ‘bundles’ of services.
BT has said that the change now means they would “be competing on a more level playing field than previously”. BT is already working on plans for the new offers which are expected to roll out this autumn to BT’s 14 million landline customers.
