RIM seems to have done rather well this summer as Research IN Motion claim breakthrough results for the summer fiscal quarter, and claim they have shipped roughly 8.3 million BlackBerry handsets between the months of June and August which beats their previous record of 7.8 million reports electronista.
Apparently 3.8 million of those were new BlackBerry accounts and thus possibly new BlackBerry smartphone users, although Research IN Motion hasn’t attributed and particular factor to the high number, but the debut of both the BlackBerry Curve 8520 and BlackBerry Tour along with promotions by Verizon probably helped.
RIM’s financial health is still largely positive, and while net income fell some 26% compared to spring from $643 million to $475.6 million, Rim revenues continued to grow some 3% to $3.53 billion with results more favourable when compared to the year previous.
