Now here’s a thing, apparently Apple had an idea similar to that of the Palm Pre’s webOS for the iPhone way back in 2007 whereby certain applications would have run as dashboard style widgets according to a report on the iphone blog.
Word is Apple panned the idea in the 6 months between the announcement of the iPhone in Jan 2007 and when the iPhone finally hit in June, and concluded the performance of such apps was unacceptable.
Apparently Apple was just going to do small applications like calculator, stocks and weather. However web tech has improved some since 07 especially JavaScript rendering, so did Apple actually make the right decision or should they dig up their old plans and bring them to today’s iPhone?
