MontraVista Software is to be acquired by Cavium Networks for the sum of $50 million which will be made up of $34 million in Cavium Networks stock and $16 million in cold hard cash reports an article over on converge digest.
MontiVista Software is a supplier of virtualisation development tools, multi-core embedded Linux operating systems and professional services to Tier-1 customers, and their Carrier Grade Linux is embedded in telecom products the likes of Motorola, Samsung, Garmin, Nokia-Siemens, Ericsson, Alcatel-Lucent, Fujitsu, Cisco, NEC and more.
The company’s embedded Linux market segment also includes Tier-1 CE makers like Samsung, Sony, MID, Philips and mobile vendors like Garmin and NEC along with automation vendors like Kyocera-Mita, HP and Fuji Xerox.
Once said acquisition has been completed, MontaVista is to run as a separate operation and will keep their brand name and Cavium Networks will continue the MontaVista business model and support embedded Linux on multiple architectures.
