Possible Smartphone Attacks Coming Says RIM Security VP
According to the security chief of BlackBerry smartphone maker Research IN Motion, hackers could one day turn smartphones into “rouge” handset that could attack major wireless networks reports an article on Reuters.
Vice President of BlackBerry security at Research In Motion, Scott Totzke believes hackers could use smartphones to hit wireless carriers via a technique similar to that of one used to slow internet traffic in South Korea and the USA back in July.
Apparently criminals using a DDOS (distributed denial of service) attack they could use mobile phone signals to order thousands of computers to repeatedly contact a targeted site resulting in slowing or eventually crashing the target site.
Totzke has said that is an area of concern, and the best way to protect against an attack is to regularly apply security patches which RIM and other smartphone makers release as soon as they identify a security flaw.
