It appears that China will soon be seeing a customised BlackBerry smartphone which will be affiliated with Lenovo to increase Research In Motion’s market share in the world’s largest mobile phone market according to an article over on Bloomberg.
In Beijing, BlackBerry maker Research In Motion along with partner China Mobile have announced that China’s own 3G wireless tech will be supported on BlackBerry handsets with a view to expand distribution of BlackBerry in the Chin market via Digital China Holdings Ltd.
So basically what this means is that certain BlackBerry smartphones will support China Mobile’s 3G technology TD-SCDMA which would obviously give RIM an advantage over other handset makers in China.
China Mobile’s chairman has said that TD-SCDMA supporting BlackBerry handsets is to be introduced “very soon,” and while at the moment BlackBerry prices are quite high in order to increase sales they need to adjust prices.
