Yes folks if you are over in great white Canada and own an HTC Magic or HTC Dream on the Rogers Wireless network it looks as if you will not be gaining an official operating system update above Android 1.5 according to an article over on the BGR.

Apparently this news has been confirmed buy both HTC and Rogers Wireless, and a post on the HTC website says that HTC is not planning any Android 1.6 upgrades to the Rogers Magic or Dream. Android 1.6 is available to Google branded handsets and not HTC branded handsets.

It appears HTC believe that Android 1.5 is stable and reliable software that delivers a “terrific user experience”, so basically any Rogers HTC Magic and Dream owners are stuck with it.

No doubt many owners will be quite upset over the news, and it has to be noted that Android is supposed to be open software, and there should really be a way round so Rogers can offer above Android 1.5, as other carriers have managed it.
