Apple Announces 3 Billion App Store Downloads
Now you just knew that Apple wasn’t going to let Google grab all the attention in the mobile arena yesterday, as according to an article over on the boy genius report, on the same day Google went official with their Nexus One, Apple announced via a press release that the iPhone iTunes App Store has surpassed 3 billion downloads.
Apparently, Apple supremo, Steve Jobs has said, “the revolutionary App Store offers iPhone and iPod touch users an experience unlike anything else available on other mobile devices, and we see no signs of the competition catching up anytime soon.”
Well he could well be right, as the closest App Store rival, the Android Market boasts 18000 apps, while BlackBerry have 4000, and well the iPhone has over 125000 active apps available in the US, so yeah it doesn’t look like anyone will catch up with Apple in the near future.
Back on September the 28th, Apple stated 2 billion downloads, and in just over 3 months another billion is added, which according to the BGR’s figures equates to some 10.2 million downloads per day for the 98 day period, kind of impressive isn’t it.
