As we know, Apple’s Steve Jobs doesn’t like Adobe Flash and recently slammed Flash and Adobe. It seems Apple simply doesn’t want Flash on their iPhone, iPod Touch, or iPad.
However, according to an article over on mercury news, Kevin Lynch, Chief Technology Officer for Adobe has blogged that Flash is ready for smartphones and will work fine on all Apple products and also comments “if and when Apple chooses to allow that for its users.”
Steve Jobs commented that no one will use Flash in future as its all about HTML5, well Lynch says that using HTML5 could lead “back to the dark ages of video on the web,” mainly due to HTML5 lacking a common format which works across all browsers.
Lynch also defended Adobes record of creativity by saying that open access has proven to be more effective in the long term that a walled approach; meaning Apples iron-fist stranglehold on what software the iPhone and other Apple products run.
Critics has commented that Flash is old hat tech, runs slowly and eats up battery power, but Lynch says the latest version of Flash works well with smartphones from RIM, Nokia and Google.
No doubt the argument over Flash and the iPhone will continue, but in the end if Apple sticks by their guns and sat no, there’s very little Adobe can do about it, and iPhone users will continue to go without a full web experience.
