Merger between T Mobile and Orange to get the go ahead
The proposed merger between T Mobile and Orange is expected to gain approval from European regulators which will allow a clear pathway for the creation of Britain’s largest mobile phone operator.
It is assumed that the deal may well be fast tracked after both companies offered key concessions in order to ease the concerns of the competition and industry watchdogs n the UK.
The combining of these two companies Deutsche Telekom’s T Mobile and Orange UK which is a subsidiary of France Telecom was initially announced last September, the intention is to become Britain’s biggest player with some 30 million customers overtaking 02.
The deal met with opposition initially from the Office of Fair Trading, however, this month the OFT has requested that is be granted the right to rule on the merger.
Both companies have agreed to give up some of their bandwidth, which has prompted both the OFT and Ofcom to tell the European Commission that they are now in agreement for the deal to go ahead. Source – business.timesonline.co.uk
