Vodafone mobile handset pre installed with malware

It’s not good news for Vodafone at the moment as it seems there may be a problem with handsets due to a computer in the production line being infected.

Trend Micro researchers have revelled that it is likely that a computer in Vodafone’s production line has been infected. Internet content security firm Trend Micro claim that their researchers became alerted to the discovery of a malware that apparently came pre installed on a Vodafone mobile handset.

It is believed that its memory card carried the malware in it. Vodafone have been taking the heat for packing malware straight out of the box on their HTC Magic Android Smartphones. Fortunately one recipient of the malware infected phones was an employee of the Spanish antivirus firm Panda security.

Vodafone has already issued a statement claiming that the infected phone problem was an isolated one. It was the plugging of the virus infected phone via USB into a PC that quickly led to the infection said to be caused by WORM_SILLY.QT. Trend Micro suspect that there is the possibility that other Smartphones coming out of the same factory may well be infected the company warned. Source – ciol.com
