Well what do you know; it appears that social networking site Twitter had purchased the firm who is behind the iPhone Twitter client, Tweetie according to an article over on gizmodo which gained the information from the nytimes.

Word has it that Twitter is going to rename Tweetie to Twitter for iPhone and offer the app as a free iPhone application, and lets face it in this day and age free is way better than paid right?

One would also presume that Twitter’s now Twitter for iPhone will actually work with the iPad as well thus the iPad gains a free Twitter app as well.

No word on if Twitter has any inclination to offer the application for free to other mobile platform yet, but who knows, but this move sure enabled Twitter to grab a place in the iPhone market.
