Apple changed the iPhone developer licence agreement for the new iPhone OS 4.0 SDK and apparently some developers aren’t too happy about it; one in particular is the CEO of TaoEffect, Greg Slepak, who sent an email to Apple boss Steve Jobs reports appleinsider.
Apparently in Slepak’s email he told Steve Jobs that he believed that there was a negative reaction to the change across the entire internet and even including John Gruber of Daring Fireball, and apparently Steve Jobs replied with a link to Gruber’s commentary on why they changed section 3.1.1, with Jobs stating “We think John Gruber’s post is very insightful and not negative.”
Slepak responded with that he believes the changes are “limiting creativity itself” and said that he believes there are numerous apps written with cross platform frameworks which are “amazing” like Firefox, and apparently Jobs replied within 3 minutes with…”We’ve been there before, and intermediate layers between the platform and the developer ultimately produces sub-standard apps and hinders the progress of the platform.”
The changes in Apple’s iPhone developer licence agreement has started heated debate which basically shuts out Adobe’s new feature for creating apps for the iPhone which can be ported from existing software written in Flash, and one Adobe evangelist said he felt it was a “hostile and despicable move.”
