Word has it by way of an article over on intomobile that Spain’s Telefonica is about to get a name change and will rebrand itself Movistar across their Latin American networks according to the source article over on mobile business briefing.
Apparently Europa Press are reporting that the process is already underway in Chile and is the first unit in the region to replace the name Telefonica with Movistar and other markets have been allotted for rebranding as of the 1st of May.
The company’s idea is to rebrand all markets outside Central and Northern Europe under the Movistar banner while in Central and Northern Europe the firm will continue to use the O2 name, but they will also continue to use the Telefonica brand for institutional reasons.
Apparently this is all part of a 3 year strategy program by Telefonica and called “bravo” and along with the new branding their goal is to have control of a minimum of 30 percent of the markets where Telefonica operates. Telefonica recently announced the free use of their 8 European telepresence online conference suits which we previously reported on.
